Title: PostNuke SQL Injection and Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerabilities
Severity: HIGH
Description:
PostNuke is a freely available Web based content management system. It is implemented in PHP and available for Unix/Linux variants as well as Microsoft Windows platforms.
PostNuke is prone to SQL injection and cross-site scripting vulnerabilities. These issues are due to a failure in the application to properly sanitize user-supplied input.
PostNuke is vulnerable an SQL injection vulnerability affecting the 'start' parameter of the 'Messages' module.
This vulnerability could permit remote attackers to pass malicious input to database queries, resulting in modification of query logic or other attacks. Successful exploitation could result in a compromise of the application, disclosure or modification of data, or may permit an attacker to exploit vulnerabilities in the underlying database implementation. It should be noted that an attacker can disclose the password hash of an administrator by exploiting this issue.
The 'start' parameter of the 'Messages' module is also affected by a cross-site scripting vulnerability. This issue can allow an attacker to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser. A successful attack may allow an attacker to steal cookie-based authentication credentials and carry out other attacks.
PostNuke 0.750 and subsequent versions are affected by these issues.
Affected Products:
- PostNuke Development Team PostNuke 0.75.0
- PostNuke Development Team PostNuke 0.76.0 RC4
- PostNuke Development Team PostNuke 0.76.0 RC4a
