Title: Computer Associates Vet Library Remote Heap Overflow Vulnerability

Description:
Computer Associates Vet is a library that implements an antivirus scan engine. It is utilized in many Computer Associates, Zonelabs, and possibly other vendor products.
CA Vet is susceptible to a remote heap overflow vulnerability. This is due to an integer overflow flaw in memory allocation and utilization routines.
This issue presents itself when the library attempts to process compressed VBA projects. The project name record contains a 32 bit signed length value. This value is incremented by one to account for adding a NULL byte, and used in a new() function call.
When the length passed to the affected library is -1, it is incremented by one, and the new() call is called with the argument of 0. This results in a very small memory allocation, and further operations on the newly allocated buffer result in overwriting adjacent heap data.
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to overwrite critical heap memory control structures. This results in the ability to cause arbitrary machine code to be executed in the context of applications that utilize the affected library.
