Title: Cocktail Admin Password Disclosure Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Cocktail is a collection of maintenance tools and interface tweaks for Mac OS X.
Cocktail is prone to a password disclosure vulnerability.
When the application is launched, it prompts the user for the Admin password. It then pipes the Admin password to the various command line utilities it employs. The password is passed to these utilities in an insecure manner by the command:
sh -c echo 'PASSWORD' | sudo -p "" -S sudo update_prebinding -root /
This could allow another user of the system to gain access to the Admin password while Cocktail waits for a utility to finish its job.
This issue was reported to affect Cocktail 3.5.4. Other versions are likely vulnerable.
Affected Products:
- Cocktail Cocktail 3.5.4
