Title: Altiris Client Service Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

The Altiris Client Service is an application designed to interface with Altiris Client Management Suite applications on client desktop computers.

A local privilege escalation vulnerability affects the Altiris Client Service. This issue is due to a failure of the application to properly secure access to privileged interfaces.

The problem presents itself due to a failure of the application to make itself inaccessible to an unprivileged user. Apparently an unprivileged user can cause the hidden client service to be revealed. Once the client service is revealed, the attacker can leverage the issue outlined in BID 11709 (Altiris Deployment Solution Client Service Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability) to gain elevated privileges.

An attacker may leverage this issue to gain SYSTEM level privileges on an affected computer.

It should be noted that although on version 6.0.88 is reportedly affected, it is likely that other versions are affected as well.

Affected Products:

  • Altiris Client Management Suite 0.0.0
  • Altiris Client Service 6.0.88 Windows
