Title: IBM WebSphere Application Server Error Page Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

IBM WebSphere Application Server is a utility designed to facilitate the creation of various enterprise Web applications.

WebSphere is prone to a cross-site scripting vulnerability in default error message Web pages. When an invalid file name is requested from the Web server, the file name requested is included in the 404 error page returned. Since the file name is not sanitized, any script code embedded in the request will be included in the error message.

An attacker may leverage this issue to have arbitrary script code executed in the browser of an unsuspecting user in the context of the affected Web site. This may facilitate the theft of cookie-based authentication credentials; other attacks are also possible.

IBM WebSphere 6.0 was reported to be prone to this issue; other versions may also be vulnerable.

Affected Products:

  • IBM Websphere Application Server 6.0.0
