Title: KDE KApplication configfile vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
The KDE configuration-file management has a bug which could result in root compromise.
KDE changes ownership of its rc files to that of the user running the KDE application.
A local attacker can exploit this by creating a symbolic link in place of a KDE configuration file, pointing to a target file elsewhere on the host. This allows the user to assume ownership of the target file and write any desired data to it.
Properly exploited, this can grant the attacker an elevation of privileges.
Affected Products:
- Caldera OpenLinux 2.3.0
- Caldera OpenLinux 2.4.0
- KDE KDE 1.1.2
- MandrakeSoft Linux Mandrake 7.0.0
