Title: GoodTech Systems Telnet Server for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

GoodTech Systems Telnet Server for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 is a commercially available application designed to provide telnet services to the Microsoft Windows platform. It also supports a Web server over port 2380 that provides a Web-based administration interface.

A remote buffer overflow vulnerability affects GoodTech Systems Telnet Server for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003. This issue is due to a failure of the application to securely copy network-derived data into sensitive process buffers.

The problem presents itself when the Web server of the affected application receives excessively long input. Apparently by sending 10040 bytes to the affected Web server an overflow can be triggered.

An attacker may leverage this issue to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges on a computer running a vulnerable version of the affected software.

Affected Products:

  • GoodTech Telnet Server for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 4.0.0
  • GoodTech Telnet Server for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 5.0.0
