Title: WebMod Content-Length Remote Heap Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
WebMod is a multi-threaded HTTP Web server. It is available as a plugin for Half-Life Dedicated Server.
WebMod is reported prone to a remote heap overflow vulnerability. This issue arises due to a boundary condition error and may allow remote attackers to gain unauthorized access to a vulnerable computer by executing arbitrary code.
Specifically, the vulnerability presents itself due to insufficient boundary checks performed in the 'server.cpp' file. It is reported that an attacker can exploit this issue by supplying a malformed HTTP POST request containing excessive data that is larger than the HTTP 'Content-Length' header.
A successful attack can allow the attacker to overwrite sensitive process memory and ultimately execute arbitrary code in the context of the Web server.
WebMod versions 0.47 and prior are reported prone to this issue.
Affected Products:
- WebMod WebMod 0.47.0
