Title: LionMax Software Chat Anywhere Insecure Password Storage Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

LionMax Software Chat Anywhere is a chat server application that is intended to be used with Microsoft Windows operating systems. Chat Anywhere also includes remote administration through the web.

A local insecure password storage vulnerability affects LionMax Software Chat Anywhere. This issue is due to a failure of the application to store password credentials in a secure location by default.

The problem presents itself as the password files for various chat rooms are stored in a world-readable location by default. Apparently chat room passwords are stored in '.ini' files in the 'room' directory that resides in the application installation root directory. Furthermore passwords are stored in the 'password' directory of the installation root directory in '.pwd' files.

A local attacker may leverage this issue to gain access to restricted chat room authentication credentials, facilitating unauthorized access.

It should be noted that although only version 2.72a is reportedly affected, it is likely other versions are affected as well.

Affected Products:

  • LionMax Software Chat Anywhere 2.72.0 a
