Title: Apache Software Foundation Batik Squiggle Browser Access Validation Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Batik is a Java based toolkit designed to facilitate the use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format images. It includes Squiggle, an SVG browser application that supports the Rhino scripting engine.
An access validation error affects Apache Software Foundation Batik Squiggle Browser. This issue is due to a failure of the affected application to properly regulate access to sensitive system resources.
The problem presents itself when the Squiggle browser interprets certain unspecified Rhino scripts. Apparently it is possible for an attacker to craft a malicious Rhino script that will grant access to sensitive resources such as the file system. The exact consequences of this issue are currently unknown, however it is likely that this issue may be leveraged to gain access to certain files that an attacker does not have privileges to access.
An attacker may leverage this issue to gain unauthorized access to potentially sensitive system resources such as the files system. Other attacks may also be possible.
