Title: Savant Web Server Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: CRITICAL
Description:
Savant is a freely available webserver for Microsoft Windows platforms.
A remote buffer-overflow vulnerability affects Savant Web Server because it fails to validate the length of user-supplied strings before copying them into finite process buffers.
The problem presents itself when a vulnerable server tries to handle network-based communication containing malicious content. Apparently, when the affected server receives a malicious request of excessive length, it stores it insecurely, causing its internal memory to become corrupted.
A remote attacker may leverage this issue to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the affected webserver. This issue may facilitate unauthorized access or privilege escalation.
