Title: Macallan Mail Solution HTTP GET Request Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

Macallan Mail Solution is a mail server for Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Macallan Mail Solution is prone to a remotely exploitable buffer overflow vulnerability. This issue is exposed when the Web interface is sent an overly long HTTP GET request.

The cause of the issue appears to be insufficient bounds checking of HTTP GET request data before it is copied into a finite destination buffer. This makes it possible to overrun the bounds of the destination buffer and corrupt adjacent regions of stack memory with the superfluous data.

This issue was reported to result in denial of service in the MCPOP3 service running the Web server and the POP3 service itself. It is noted that code execution is also likely since it appears that an attacker can influence the value of the saved instruction pointer and therefore control execution flow of the program.

Affected Products:

  • Macallan Mail Solution Macallan Mail Solution 4.0.6.8 (Build 768)
