Title: Sandino Flores Moreno Gaim Festival Plug-in Remote Denial Of Service Vulnerability
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
Gaim is an instant messaging client that supports numerous protocols. It is available for the Unix and Linux platforms. Gaim Festival Plug-in is software that transfers incoming GAIM messages to Festival where the text is voice synthesized and output to the sound card.
The Gaim Festival Plug-in is reported prone to a remote denial of service vulnerability. Reports indicate that the plug-in does not handle certain characters correctly and will crash if these characters are parsed from an incoming message. It is reported that when the following C code is sent to a remote user, their Festival Plug-in will crash and their current Gaim session terminated:
##printf("%s", "%s", "hello world");
##printf("%s", "hello world");
