Title: FreeBSD Linux ProcFS Local Kernel Denial Of Service And Information Disclosure Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

FreeBSD supports the Linux process file system (procfs and linprocfs). This functionality allows FreeBSD to support Linux binary execution.

A local denial of service and information disclosure vulnerability affects the procfs and linprocfs implementation on FreeBSD. This issue is due to a design error that causes the mismanagement of memory references.

The problem presents itself due to a failure of the '/proc/curproc/cmdline' pseudo file in the procfs implementation and the '/proc/self/cmdline' pseudo file in the linprocfs implementation to perform proper checks on a process argument vector in the process' memory space. Apparently during the reading of the process argument vector a pointer is derefenced without validation, potentially facilitating the disclosure of sensitive information. This may also lead to denial of service if the derefenced address is outside of the process memory space.

An attacker may leverage this issue to cause a kernel panic on an affected computer, denying service to legitimate users. It is also possible to leverage this issue to disclose kernel memory, potentially facilitating the theft of sensitive information.
