Title: ACPID Proxy Unspecified Local Denial Of Service Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

ACPID is a daemon for handling ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) events. It is available for UNIX and Linux platforms.

An unspecified local denial of service vulnerability affected acpid_proxy. The underlying issue causing this vulnerability is currently unknown.

Reportedly a local attacker can manipulate the acpid_proxy in some way to trigger a denial of service condition on the local computer. The details available regarding this BID are insufficient to provide a more in-depth technical description. This BID will be updated as more information is released.

A local attacker may leverage this issue to cause the affected computer to crash or hang, denying service to legitimate users.

It should be noted that this issue was reported in a SuSE fix notification. It is not known if it affects versions of ACPID running on other operating systems or if it is a configuration error specific to the SuSE Linux distribution. Furthermore it is not known if this issue relates to BID 11739 (ACPID Insecure Umask Directory Permissions Vulnerability). This BID will be updated as more information is released.

Affected Products:

  • ACPID ACPID 1.0.3
  • S.u.S.E. Linux Personal 9.2.0
