Title: 21-6 Productions Orbz Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: HIGH

Description:

21-6 Productions Orbz is a multiplayer, network play enabled game for Linux, Apple Mac OS and Microsoft Windows. It supports multiplayer on-line play through a client/server design.

A remote buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in 21-6 Productions Orbz. This issue is due to a failure of the application to properly validate the length of user-supplied strings prior to copying them into finite process buffers.

The problem presents itself when a malicious user provides an excessively long password when authenticating to a vulnerable game server. Apparently the application fails to properly handle password strings, copying them into a fixed buffer prior to verifying string lengths.

An attacker may exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user that activated the vulnerable application. This may facilitate unauthorized access or privilege escalation.

Affected Products:

  • 21-6 Productions Orbz 2.10.0
  • 21-6 Productions Orbz 2.5.0
  • 21-6 Productions Orbz 2.6.0
  • 21-6 Productions Orbz 2.7.0

  • 21-6 Productions Orbz 2.9.0
