Title: Sysinternals PsTools Remote Unauthorized Access Vulnerability
Severity: CRITICAL
Description:
Sysinternals PsTools is a freely available collection of utilities designed to facilitate remote administration of Microsoft Windows computers.
Reportedly Sysinternals PsTools are affected by a remote unauthorized access vulnerability. This issue is due to a design error that causes a failure of the utilities to properly secure the affected computer.
The problem presents itself when remote computers are administered using the affected utilities. Apparently the utilities map the IPC$ or ADMIN$ network shares when issuing remote commands, when the utilities exit they fail to properly disconnect; leaving the affected network shares open. This would allow a malicious user to connect to the vulnerable shares and carry out administrator actions.
A remote attacker might leverage this issue to gain administrator access to the affected computer.
