Title: PHPNuke Multiple Input Validation Vulnerabilities
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
PHPNuke is a web based Portal system. Implemented in PHP, it is available for a range of systems, including Microsoft Windows and Linux.
It is reported that PHPNuke is susceptible to multiple cross-site scripting and SQL injection vulnerabilities.
The cross-site scripting issues present themselves in the 'sid', 'max', 'sel1', 'sel2', 'sel3', 'sel4', 'sel5', 'match', 'mod1', 'mod2', and 'mod3' parameters of the '/modules/Search/index.php' script. An attacker can exploit these issues by creating a malicious link containing HTML and script code and send this link to a vulnerable user. When the user follows the link, the attacker-supplied code renders in the user's browser. This can allow for theft of cookie-based authentication credentials and other attacks.
SQL injection issues exist in the application as well. These issues affect the 'min' and 'categ' paramters of '/modules/Search/index.php' script. Due to this, attackers may supply malicious parameters to manipulate the structure and logic of SQL queries. This may result in unauthorized operations being performed on the underlying database. This issue may be exploited to cause sensitive information to be disclosed to a remote attacker.
These vulnerabilities were reported in version 7.3 of PHPNuke. Other versions may also be affected.
Affected Products:
- Francisco Burzi PHP-Nuke 7.3.0
