Title: Medal Of Honor Allied Assault Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
Severity: CRITICAL
Description:
Medal Of Honor Allied Assault is a computer game for Microsoft Windows/Linux that includes support for network play. Various expansion packs are available for the game such as Breakthrough and Spearhead.
A remote buffer-overflow vulnerability was reported in Medal of Honor Allied Assault. This issue reportedly affects multiple functions in the game client and server code.
The source of the vulnerability is insufficient bounds-checking of data supplied in remote packets, processed on either the server or client end. Reportedly, various packet types may trigger this issue. One method of triggering the issue is via the 'getinfo' query in a 'connect' package.
This issue may permit remote code execution in vulnerable game servers and clients. However, clients are reported to be affected only in LAN games, since Internet games use the Gamespy protocol. The issue also affects various expansion packs for the game.
