Title: Easy Chat Server Multiple Denial Of Service Vulnerabilities

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Easy Chat Server is a web-based chat application for Microsoft Windows.

It is reported that Easy Chat Server is susceptible to multiple denial of service vulnerabilities.

The chat software is implemented as a web server serving a chat web application to clients. The software is reported to contain two denial of service vulnerabilities.

The first issue is reported to be in the username handling. An attacker can issue a HTTP GET request containing a very long username as a URI argument. When the server receives this request, it crashes.

The second issue is reported to occur when a large number of fake users are created and join free rooms. A remote attacker is able to create numerous fake users. If the attacker creates a sufficiently large number of users, the application will crash.

An attacker with remote access to an affected instance of this application could use these vulnerabilities to crash the service, denying service to legitimate users.

Affected Products:

  • EFS Software Easy Chat Server 1.0.0
  • EFS Software Easy Chat Server 1.1.0
  • EFS Software Easy Chat Server 1.2.0
