Title: Multiple CPanel Perl Script Failure To Implement Taint Mode Weakness
Severity: MODERATE
Description:
cPanel is a multi-platform web hosting control panel that allows a user to manage their hosted account through a web-based interface. It is commercially available and currently supports Linux and BSD platforms.
Multiple Perl scripts that are distributed with cPanel are reported prone to a security weakness. The issues are reported to exist because the scripts do not run with taint mode. Specifically the script "/usr/local/cpanel/bin/proftpdvhosts" is reported to be prone to this issue, it is reported that other scripts are also affected. These weaknesses may be exploited in conjunction with the weakness described in BID 10478 in order to elevate privileges on a vulnerable system.
