Title: Icecast Server Base64 Authorization Request Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: CRITICAL

Description:

Icecast is a freely available, open source streaming audio server. Icecast is available for the Unix, Linux, and Microsoft Windows platforms.

A vulnerability has been identified in the application that may allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code in order to gain unauthorized access. The issue presents itself due to insufficient boundary checking and occurs when the server processes an excessively long base64 authentication request.

As a result, an attacker could construct and send a malformed authentication request to the server that overflows a vulnerable buffer and overwrites sensitive memory addresses. An attacker could then change the flow of execution to point to attacker-supplied memory addresses containing arbitrary code.

If successful, the attacker could execute arbitrary code in the context of the server leading to unauthorized access.

This issue is reported to exist in Icecast 2.0.0, however, it is possible that previous versions are affected as well.

Affected Products:

  • Icecast Icecast 2.0.0
