Title: Rhino Software Zaep AntiSpam Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
Rhino Software Zaep AntiSpam is a commercially available anti-spam application. It is available for the Microsoft Windows platform. The application supports a web-based interface.
It has been reported that Zaep AntiSpam is prone to a cross-site scripting vulnerability. This issue is due to a failure of the application to properly sanitize user supplied URI input.
When an email is issued to a system implementing the Zaep application a URL is created containing the 'key' parameter. This parameter is not sufficiently sanitized prior to being rendered as part of HTML content. Apparently the application will replace all '/' characters with '\' characters; rendering HTML tags unreadable. The application fails to filter hex encoded characters however, and so it is possible for an attacker to create a URI link that contains malicious HTML or script code.
This issue could permit a remote attacker to create a malicious URI link that includes hostile HTML and script code. If this link were followed, the hostile code may be rendered in the web browser of the victim user. This would occur in the security context of the affected web site and may allow for theft of cookie-based authentication credentials or other attacks.
