Title: Eazel Nautilus Trash Folder Handler Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Severity: MODERATE

Description:

Nautilus is a file manager for the GNOME desktop environment. Nautilus has been reported to be prone to a buffer overflow vulnerability.

The vulnerability is reported to present itself when Nautilus attempts to delete a directory with a name of 255 bytes or more. Specifically, when the directory is deleted and an operation is performed to clear the deleted directory out of the "Trash" folder, or the malicious folder is opened in the "Trash" folder, a buffer overflow will reportedly occur, resulting in memory corruption.

An attacker who has some degree of interactive access to an affected system may attempt to exploit this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the user who is invoking Nautilus file manager.

Nautilus versions up to and including version 2.2.1 are reported prone to this vulnerability.
