Title: ADA IMGSVR Directory Traversal Vulnerability
Severity: HIGH
Description:
ImgSvr is a server that allows remote users to browse and share image files. It is freely available under the GNU Public License for Linux and Microsoft Windows.
ImgSvr is prone to an issue that may allow an attacker to view files that reside outside of the server root directory. This issue occurs because the application fails to properly sanitize user-supplied URI data.
The problem presents itself when a user provides a directory-traversal string containing '%2e%2e%2f%2f' sub-strings through a URI request to the affected server. The server fails to validate the input and serves the requested file.
Reportedly, an attacker could also leverage this issue to list server-readable directories on the affected system.
Successful exploits may allow remote attackers to access sensitive information that may be used to launch further attacks against a vulnerable system.
Affected Products:
- ADA ImgSvr 0.4.0
- ImgSvr ImgSrv 0.6.5
- ImgSvr ImgSvr 0.6.21
