Overview

Juniper Networks Odyssey Access Client FIPS Edition is a specialized edition of Odyssey Access Client, our secure, low-overhead 802.1X supplicant that for the first time allows government agencies to deploy secure, scalable wireless LAN access based on the open 802.1X and 802.11i security standards. OAC FE incorporates the Odyssey Security Component, a cryptographic module that has been FIPS 140-2 Level 1 Validated by NIST and the Canada Communications Security Establishment (see FIPS 140-2 Certificate #569). OAC FE conforms to FIPS guidelines, using EAP-TLS authentication, 802.11i (WPA2) key derivation, and AES-CCMP data encryption. OAC FE also supports the xSec protocol. The xSec protocol utilizes AES encryption, and all client-side cryptographic xSec operations are performed using the FIPS 140-2 Validated cryptographic module.

In addition, OAC FE has recently been accepted into evaluation for conformance to the Common Criteria (ISO/IEC 15408), the international security standard. The claims being validated include the US Government Protection Profile for Wireless LAN Clients. Please contact Juniper Networks for the evaluation status and the version number of the evaluated client.

Odyssey® Access Client FIPS Edition supports Windows 2000 and Windows XP. OAC FE requires a modified driver to enable the wireless adapter to run 802.11i in FIPS mode. Juniper Networks is in the process of verifying compatibility with a number of wireless adapters. Please contact Juniper Networks for the latest list of verified wireless adapters. Please note that there are no special adapter or driver requirements needed to run xSec in FIPS mode.
