HealthBridge is a private healthcare Internet service provider that links physician offices, physicians at home, laboratories, billing companies and hospitals in southwestern Ohio. HealthBridge lacked IT leadership and management until Rodney Cain joined as chief technology officer three years ago. As Cain redesigned and rebuilt its infrastructure, he directed replacement of all the equipment. In the process, Cain has incorporated newer technologies, including site-to-site VPN and (Juniper's) SSL VPN, to standardize connectivity across the network.

For the 71-year-old National Gypsum, the Juniper SSL VPN deployment is a jolt of success. It was able to achieve a 150 percent ROI almost immediately and it saved hundreds of thousands of dollars with its do-it-yourself application design. The secure remote access also provides their 75 roaming sales reps with access to e-mail, marketing data, customer orders and a link to the 65 inside sales agents at headquarters.

In the Firewall/IDS/IPS category, NetScreen won with its range of custom-built, integrated firewall and virtual private network (VPN) devices. The jury awarded it as the clear winner because of its Deep Inspection firewall functionality, which builds on the strength of stateful inspection and integrates intrusion prevention technology into the firewall to provide application-level attack protection for the network perimeter.
