At the core of the Internet, a decentralised set of high-speed routers act as the switchboards for every packet you send or receive. Living mostly in equipment rooms of the major ISPs, most were made by Cisco Systems. Now Juniper Networks is bidding for Cisco's crown with its M40 router.
