Es werden immer höhere Anforderungen an die Mobilität der Mitarbeiter von Unternehmen gestellt. Daher müssen zukünftig immer mehr mobile Anwender in bestehende IT/TK-Infrastrukturen eingebunden werden.

Bereits heute arbeiten nach neuesten IDC-Studien europaweit 47,1% der arbeitenden Bevölkerung in Aufgabengebieten, die örtliche Flexibilität erfordern - mit steigender Tendenz. 16,8% arbeiten dabei bereits durchgehend wireless, eine Zahl, die sich bis 2010 auf 25,8% erhöhen wird. Diese Mitarbeiter benötigen jederzeit Zugriff auf Business-Anwendungen, beispielsweise ERP- , CRM- oder Service-Applikationen und ihnen zugrunde liegende Datenbanken. Eine Lösung hierbei kann in der Verwendung offener Standards liegen, weil sie eine einheitliche Grundlage für verschiedene mobile Geräte und Anwendungen bilden. Zudem sind Sicherheitslösungen erforderlich, die so angelegt sein müssen, dass sie den Mitarbeitern keine demotivierenden Schwierigkeiten bei ihrer Arbeit unterwegs bereiten.
