Service providers are migrating their voice services to VOIP architectures and rapidly deploying interactive multimedia services using IPTV and VOD technologies. At the same time, mobile operators are deploying enhanced data services using GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, and EV-DO technologies. The proliferation of IP into these service-layer architectures creates a huge vulnerability and exposure to network infrastructures, and protection mechanisms from these vulnerabilities will need to be rooted in service providers' next-generation networks (NGNs). This session discusses the different issues around network security in service provider networks and highlights standards-based solutions targeted to protection of NGN infrastructures.
