The Challenges

Today's mobile computing environment has redefined the way business is done, and challenged enterprise networks to deliver security and service levels exceeding any previous benchmark. Not only are today's users demanding mobile access, they bring and use their own devices. Enterprise networks have to provide that access transparently, securely, wired or wirelessly, at any campus or branch location in the enterprise, and from any external location as well.

The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) phenomenon brings with it especially difficult security challenges because each type of mobile device is different and has unique vulnerabilities. At the same time, attackers are more numerous and sophisticated, and keep finding new ways to attack each type of device. In addition, today's multimedia and interactive applications present new ways of masking attacks, further increasing network vulnerability.

And it's all growing — quickly. Today's networks have to allow access to a rapidly growing number of employees, partners, customers, patrons, and even casual visitors, and so they must have strong and flexible identity management systems to ensure appropriate access. At the same time they have to protect of business critical applications and intellectual property, and enable all types users to have access to sophisticated online applications designed to fulfill their particular business purposes.

All of this has to be provided with enhanced levels of performance that support wide and responsive distribution of today's sophisticated business and entertainment applications, ranging from simple order entry and account management, to VoIP telephony and interactive video training programs.

The Solution is to be Simply Connected

Simply Connected is an integrated portfolio of resilient switching, security, and wireless, products that allows simple and secure access to business-critical information and collaboration. There are three foundations that support Simply Connected:

  • Coordinated Security
  • Performance at Scale
  • Highly Resilient

Simply Connected Security establishes barriers that secure the device, the network edge, and the application. It starts with qualifying the device, then provisioning and authenticating the user, and enforcing security policies at the user and application level. Simply Connected security controls the device and avoids data leakage on an ongoing basis, and it can reach out to destroy data if the device is lost or stolen. Simply Connected makes it simple for a user to bring a device, and makes it simple to change devices over time.

Low latency, high throughput Simply Connected performance delivers the same service levels whether users are connected to a wireless or wired portion of the network, and regardless of how many users are actively connected. And campus or branch growth is not a problem because Simply Connected has expansion built into its architecture, and even the quickening growth of today's bandwidth-hungry rich media applications won't slow it down.

Juniper's network products are designed for non-stop use in mission critical networks of all types, and Simply Connected is no exception. Its simplified operation has multiple levels of redundancy with no single point of failure in both wired and wireless branches of the network, so business continuity is never a concern.

The Benefits

Simply Connected is an integrated portfolio, making network access for wired and wireless devices of all types transparent and secure. Its design is device-independent, and includes provisioning technology that makes it almost impossible for users not to get an appropriate level of access to the network, to switch devices when necessary, and even to use multiple devices for different purposes.

Simply Connected makes it simple to enable and provision connections to your campus, branch, or wide area network regardless of what device your users may choose. They can connect securely and with superb performance at any location in the network. Simply Connected ensures that the connection robust, that all appropriate applications and services can be reached, and that the network will not become unexpectedly unavailable or disabled.

Portable and mobile devices are particularly vulnerable to security attacks as well as to theft and loss and Simply Connected provides protection for each of these risks. No other solution provides this combination of easy connectivity and provisioning, security, and high performance, in such a robust environment.

The sum of it makes Simply Connected profitable — your employees and partners can easily do their work, your partners can more easily enhance your business and your customers can easily buy your product.

Authentication Stack

Junos Pulse Gateways, EX Series ,SRX Series, WLC Series and Junos Pulse Access Control Service combine to authenticate users with respect to device or port, and deliver context-aware policy tailored to the user’s security risk. The policy is enforced across the corporate network and user's devices, through central policy creation and enforcement for wired, wireless switch, the firewall, and any user’s device

EX Series Ethernet Switches

EX Series Ethernet switches feature important enabling technologies for the campus. Virtual Chassis technology connects multiple switches to behave as a single, logical device, reducing latency and increasing throughput. Programmability enables the creation of highly flexible networks that can easily adapt to evolving needs without requiring hardware upgrades. The combination dramatically increases business agility by allowing users to consolidate core and aggregation layers in distributed campus environments.
